The U.S.-Japan Council is an educational 501(c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to promoting people-to-people connections as crucial to a strong U.S.-Japan relationship. The Council brings together diverse leadership, engages stakeholders in the bilateral relationship and explores issues that benefit communities, businesses and government entities on both sides of the Pacific.

USJC Japan Week 2013

The U.S.-Japan Council will host its second USJC Japan Week in Tokyo on May 27-30. The week will include a symposium convening business and public sector leaders for an afternoon of keynote speeches and a panel session in addition to a special tribute to the late Senator Daniel K. Inouye. Mr. Tadashi Yanai, Chairman & CEO of Fast Retailing Co., Ltd., will serve as a keynote speaker at the symposium focused on the next generation of leaders from the U.S. and Japan.

Japanese Americans as Catalysts

Japanese Americans play a catalytic role in strengthening and diversifying U.S.-Japan relations. Recognizing this unique role, the U.S.-Japan Council cultivates a national network of Japanese Americans with varied professional backgrounds and provides them with leadership opportunities to help shape U.S.-Japan relations. The Council, through its programs and initiatives, also allows Japanese Americans to engage with their Japanese counterparts to form deep and meaningful ties.

2013 Emerging Leaders Program

USJC is now accepting applications for the 2013 Emerging Leaders Program. The program brings Japanese American young professionals to the U.S.-Japan Council Annual Conference to network with top leaders in U.S.-Japan relations and to learn about cutting-edge areas of collaboration. TOMODACHI

The TOMODACHI Initiative is a public-private partnership, born out of support for Japan’s recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake, that invests in the next generation of Japanese and American leaders through educational and cultural exchanges as well as entrepreneurship and leadership programs. We seek to foster a “TOMODACHI generation” of young American and Japanese leaders who are committed to and engaged in strengthening U.S.-Japan relations, appreciate each other’s countries and cultures, and possess the global skills and mindsets needed to contribute to and thrive in a more cooperative, prosperous, and secure world.

USJC Earthquake Relief Fund

After the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami that struck the Tohoku region of Japan on March 11, 2011 the U.S.-Japan Council established an Earthquake Relief Fund to support the relief and rebuilding efforts. The fund received close to $2.6 million in donations which were disbursed to Japanese Non-Profit and Non-Governmental Organizations working in the region. As of 12/31/2012 the USJC Earthquake Relief Fund is closed. Further contributions can be made to the U.S.-Japan Council or to the TOMODACHI Initiative.
