Japanese American Leadership Delegation Meets with Prime Minister Hatoyama

Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama welcomed the 2010 Japanese American Leadership Delegation at his office in a rare meeting between the country’s highest ranking government official and a select group of Japanese American leaders on March 3, 2010.

During the trip, delegation members also met with Her Highness Princess Takamado, Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada, State Secretary Koichi Takemasa, Ambassador John Roos, leaders from Nippon Keidanren, Kankeiren, Keizai Doyukai and Forum 21.

The portrait of former U.S. Transportation and Commerce Secretary, Norman Mineta, was installed on Monday, July 26th at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. Secretary Mineta served in Congress for over twenty years and was the first Asian Pacific American to hold a presidential cabinet post. Currently, Secretary Mineta is the Vice Chairman at Hill & Knowlton in Washington, DC. He is also on the board of Counsilors for the U.S.-Japan Council. Earlier this month, he spoke at a luncheon co-hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations and the U.S.-Japan Council. Congratulations to Secretary Mineta as he celebrates the installation of his portrait.
