The U.S.-Japan Council (USJC) offers heartfelt thoughts to all who are affected by the recent disasters in Japan. Typhoon Jebi in Kansai killed close to a dozen people and flooded Kansai International Airport, trapping thousands at the biggest airport in the region. The magnitude 6.7 earthquake in Hokkaido left dozens missing or killed, and the entire prefecture lost power.

We have worked often with Kansai and Hokkaido over the years, through people-to-people exchanges of business and government leaders, regional summits and our Governors' Circle initiative. Many of our members, friends and supporters have ties to those areas. We hope for a swift recovery for both regions.
