Broad Range of Sessions Address Emerging and Female Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Asian Americans in Entertainment, Japan’s Role in AI, and More
The U.S.-Japan Council, together with the U.S.-Japan Council (Japan), is pleased to present its 2019 Annual Conference from November 4-5 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles. This year’s theme “Bold Ideas, Bolder Leadership: The Next Stage of U.S.-Japan Relations” brings together regional, national and international leaders who highlight innovative and forward-thinking ideas that promote U.S.-Japan collaboration and partnership. Some notable guests include:
- Takeshi Uchiyamada, Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation
- Kazuo Hirai, Senior Advisor and Former President and CEO of Sony
- Amy Webb, Founder and CEO of the Future Today Institute and Award-Winning Author
- Bobby Webster, General Manager of the Toronto Raptors, 2019 NBA Champion
- Maia and Alex Shibutani, Champion Ice Dancers
- Marc Knapper, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Korea and Japan, Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, U.S. Department of State
The many dimensions of the U.S.-Japan relationship will be reflected in the Annual Conference’s plenary and breakout sessions, with topic sessions including:
- Building Global Bridges through Visionary Corporate Leadership: Former Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai shares how his accomplishments were influenced by his multicultural background and philosophy of embracing change.
- The Big Nine & Japan’s Role in the Destiny of AI: Futurist Amy Webb offers insights on Japan’s future in a tumultuous period and the role big corporations play in AI technology.
- Japanese & Asian Americans in Entertainment: A panel of experts in media production, content creation, film distribution and diversity advocacy explore the evolution of the entertainment landscape.
- Discovering Global Nikkei Identity: Young adults will provide insights from their experiences “growing up Nikkei” and explore the meaning of transnational identity.
- Japanese American Stars: Next-Gen Leaders Setting a New Stage: This dialogue brings together a dynamic group of young “stars” who are breaking new ground with their talents in sports and entertainment.
As the tenth USJC Annual Conference, this event will look to new opportunities to forge stronger U.S.-Japan relationships in the future.
