USJC corporate donors attended an intimate, off-the-record conversation with Siddharth Mohandas, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia on July 22. During the virtual event, Dr. Mohandas shared his insights into the U.S.-Japan relationship, and how to best utilize our strong alliance in the coming years as the political climate and security environment in the Indo-Pacific evolves. Dr. Mohandas elucidated some of the Biden Administration’s and Department of Defense’s policies and plans focused on maintaining peace and stability in the region. Following Dr. Mohandas’ opening remarks, he answered questions from participants on subjects such as the advancement of technology in Asia, the role that the U.S.-Japan alliance can play in countering China, as well as multilateral goals for strengthening alliances with other countries such as Australia and South Korea. This briefing was part of the U.S.-Japan Council’s government briefing series to bridge connections between the Biden administration and corporate leaders.
