What kind of stories did your grandparents or parents tell you about their life during the war and its aftermath? Do you want to share your family stories? Would you be interested in learning what life was like for ordinary people on the other side of the Pacific? The first Mirrored Lives program was well-received by all participants. This inspired us to develop an online program so people throughout the Midwest could join in. The Midwest U.S.-Japan Council, Consulate-General of Japan in Chicago, Japanese American Service Committee and Japan America Society of Chicago have collaborated to provide this expanded opportunity for Japanese Americans and Japanese nationals to get to know each other better in an amicable environment. There will be brief presentations on Japanese civilian
experiences in the United States and Japan during and after the war. Then we will break up into small groups, each with a facilitator, for sharing each others\u2019 family histories. Bonding over shared experiences will be one of our first steps toward creating a more collective community throughout the Midwest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The large group presentation and small group discussions will be conducted in English. A bilingual individual will be in each small group to provide translation assistance as needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
