This session will offer a comprehensive overview of the current business immigration landscape\u2014what is evolving, what remains consistent, and what employers should closely monitor. USJC Member Lisa Tashiro, a leading expert in the field, will examine how recent policy changes affect companies hiring Japanese talent or managing global workforces. They will also provide strategies for navigating the complexities of an ever-shifting regulatory environment. Given the dynamic nature of immigration policy, the session will focus on the most up-to-date and relevant developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lisa Tashiro<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Lisa Tashiro is an Associate in the Dallas office of BAL. She advises clients on a wide array of employment-based immigration matters by leveraging her extensive experience in both immigrant and nonimmigrant visas.

Prior to joining BAL, Lisa worked at a boutique immigration law firm advising a range of clients, from multinational corporations and startups to artists, researchers and investors. She has worked with the International Human Rights Clinic at the Leitner Center for International Law & Justice and volunteered with several nonprofit organizations, providing assistance to special immigrant juveniles and domestic violence survivors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lisa is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, Attorneys Serving the Community and Dallas Japanese Association. She is also an associate leader with the U.S.-Japan Council and a mentor for the nonprofit Japanese Career Women.

Travis Kaya (ELP ’24)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Travis Kaya is a public law attorney in the Los Angeles office of Richards, Watson & Gershon, representing local governments and public agencies in a wide variety of transactional matters. He currently serves as Assistant City Attorney to the cities of Beverly Hills and Agoura Hills. Prior to joining RWG, Travis worked as a commercial real estate attorney, representing real estate investment funds in purchase and sale transactions across the United States, and institutional lenders in complex affordable housing financing transactions. He received his B.A. in philosophy, politics and economics from Pomona College, Master of International Studies from the University of Sydney, and J.D. from Loyola Law School. Travis is President Elect of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Los Angeles County, and a Trustee of the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library.
