On behalf of the Mineta family, co-producers of the film “Norman Mineta and His Legacy: An American Story” Debra Nakatomi and Dianne Fukami (JALD ’09) have shared the multitude of ways the community can help keep Secretary Mineta’s legacy alive for future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mineta Legacy Project<\/a> has established sections on their website that contain information about services<\/a> for Secretary Mineta. Additionally, in lieu of flowers, the Mineta family “invites you to honor Norm’s memory” with a memorial contribution to one of the organizations he held close to his heart, which can be found here<\/a>. Individuals can also share their own memories and anecdotes of Secretary Mineta with the community by clicking here<\/a>. All of the aforementioned pages will be regularly updated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the team behind the Mineta Legacy Project has also invited educators to share Secretary Mineta’s legacy by utilizing the What Does It Mean To Be An American curriculum<\/a> to teach their students about the Japanese American incarceration experience, Secretary Mineta’s long battle for redress and reparations for the incarceration survivors, and how to strengthen connections between the United States and Japan. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
