On February 21, the U.S.-Japan Council (Japan) hosted a planned giving workshop at the USJC Japan office in Tokyo titled \u201cBuilding Your Legacy.\u201d This hybrid event brought together participants both in-person and online, fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop featured expert guest Takeshi Hayasaka, a certified tax accountant and administrative scrivener. His office has been providing pro bono tax assistance service to USJC (Japan). Mr. Hayasaka highlighted the foundational knowledge of legacy planning in Japan’s taxation system, including the basics of bequests and inheritance contributions.\u00a0The Council was also fortunate to welcome President’s Advisory Board Member and USJC Planned Giving Advisor Gary Moriwaki (Windels Marx Lane & Mittendorf, LLP, JALD \u201811), who gave insights on planned giving regulations in the United States. Thanks to both specialists, participants were able to gain insight into the differences in tax regulations between the United States and Japan, and proactively exchange planned giving ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lastly, the Council would like to express appreciation for USJC Legacy Gift Advisor Junko Tsuda, whose leadership played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
