Message from CEO & President Suzanne Basalla

Suzanne Basalla, President & CEO, U.S.-Japan Council

As I enter my third month as the President & CEO of USJC, I am filled with gratitude to so many of you for all you have done to welcome, educate and support me since my return. I have had the opportunity to meet and reconnect with many of you through the committees, regional meet & greets, and board meetings and through many individual calls and video chats. I have learned so much already and feel energized to continue to work with you all as we move into the upcoming USJC 2020 Signature Series of programs, beginning with the Bilateral Boardroom in September.

An important conversation over the last months has been about diversity, equity, and inclusion in society, in USJC’s work, and in our individual lives. I am grateful to the U40-led Outreach and Allyship Committee for launching a rich, productive dialogue. Going forward, I look forward to getting to know more of you through smaller group discussions with diverse communities within the USJC family–starting with the Shin -Issei. Keep an eye out for more details, and please share with me your thoughts through this new series of gatherings or through an email to me at [email protected].

For those of you who know me well, you know how much I enjoy sending hand-written thank you letters. My appreciation extends to so many of you right now that I regret not being able to continue that practice to everyone who deserves my personal thanks. I hope that this message can be a small token of appreciation instead.

Until next time,

Suzanne
