Irene was a respected, central figure in U.S.-Japanese relations. She worked tirelessly to develop leaders in the Japanese-American community in Hawai‘i and beyond, and to strengthen ties between our two countries. Her wisdom and grace will be missed. Dawn and I send our deepest condolences to the Inouye ‘ohana.
