The Hawaii Region hosted an evening with Congresswoman Jill Tokuda in late August in Honolulu, Hawaii. Congresswoman Tokuda was introduced by former board member Colbert Matsumoto (JALD ’10). In his remarks, Mr. Matsumoto reminded audiences of USJC’s special role in fostering goodwill and nurturing relationships with elected officials like Congresswoman Tokuda, a belief held by Senator Daniel K. Inouye and Irene Hirano Inouye, who founded USJC alongside other Japanese American leaders.
Congresswoman Tokuda talked about the importance of working “across the aisle” especially during this time of political divide. She is currently working closely on the Lahaina, Maui fire disaster relief efforts, ensuring that Maui receives federal support and resources.
