Selected participants will receive transportation to the Annual Conference, accommodations, meals, and conference registration. As an added benefit, you’ll become a U.S.-Japan Council Associate Member with your first year’s membership dues waived – a privilege typically by invitation only. Plus, you’ll gain access to exclusive ELP alumni and USJC regional events year-round.

CRITERIA & ELIGIBILITY

Candidates for the Emerging Leaders Program should be Japanese American professionals who meet the following criteria:

  • Age: 24-35 years of age at the time of the Conference.
  • Citizenship: U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  • Residence: Living in the U.S. or Japan, with availability to travel to Tokyo for the Annual Conference. Must have a valid passport.
  • Passion for U.S.-Japan relations: Shown through professional, academic, extra-curricular, or community involvement.
  • Leadership: Proven leadership experience.
  • Commitment: Dedication to remain involved in U.S.-Japan Council programs and initiatives.

In making the final selection, diversity of geography, gender, and professional background will be given consideration.

    • Session 2 – June 26, 4:00 – 5:00 pm PT
  • Application deadline: July 14, 2024, 11:59 pm (PT)

  • Notifications: Early September via email to all applicants
  • Pre-Conference Orientation (virtual): October 2, 4:00 pm PT
  • 2024 U.S.-Japan Council Annual Conference: October 28-November 1 in Tokyo, Japan
  • Post-Conference debrief (virtual): December 5, 3:00 pm PT
