Overview

The U.S.-Japan Council’s Regional Summits aims to accelerate regional and international exchange between states and prefectures in Japan. These summits highlight shared issues and opportunities spanning business, tourism, and energy, and forge connections that will pave the way for future collaboration and trade.

Japan-Texas Economic Summit

From May 7 to 9, 2018 more than 400 leaders from throughout the United States and Japan convened in Houston for the Japan-Texas Economic Summit (JTES). USJC hosted the Summit in collaboration with close to 50 cities and organizations. Issues discussed during the Summit included ongoing trade and investment; opportunities for further collaboration; sister city ties; and people-to-people exchanges.

Japan-Hawaii Economic Summit

The inaugural  Japan-Hawaii Economic Summit, which USJC co-hosted with the State of Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT), was a resounding success. More than 200 leaders—including governors, vice governors and other representatives of seven Japanese prefectures (Ehime, Fukuoka, Hokkaido, Nagano, Oita, and Shizuoka)—gathered in Kona from May 9 to 11, 2017 discussing ways to collaborate with Hawaii through food, tourism, education, clean energy and more.
