In celebration of International Women’s Day 2026, USJC Women+ Forum (open to all genders) is proud to host a fireside chat with Miori Sagara, who founded Baobab in 2010, well before the generative AI boom. Today, the company provides high-quality AI training data to companies and institutions globally, including Google, The University of Tokyo, Hitachi and Carnegie Mellon University. Hear from Miori on the critical role played by AI training data, her future vision for AI, and Baobab’s “Give to Gain” approach to sustainably building the human infrastructure behind AI. The event will open with remarks from Audrey Yamamoto, President and CEO of USJC, and will conclude with a 30-minute networking breakout session, in English and Japanese, for those who are interested in participating.

After graduating from university, Miori Sagara worked at Sumitomo Corporation, an NGO, and as a director of a venture company before founding Baobab in 2010. Baobab undertakes AI training data creation projects from major domestic and international companies and research institutions, developing skills and providing work opportunities for people with employment limitations, thereby creating jobs. The company provides world-class data quality with over 1,400 annotators worldwide. Baobab boasts the top number of generative AI data projects in Japan, collaborating with major domestic and international companies, including NTT’s development of a domestic large-scale language model, and projects commissioned by Google. In 2023, the company was selected for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s “J-Startup” program. In 2024, Miori was selected as one of Forbes JAPAN’s “30 Women Changing the World in the Technology Sector.” In 2025, she was selected for the AVPN “AI Opportunity Fund” and the UNIDO “Green Industrial Recovery Project for Ukraine,” promoting inclusive digital job creation.
