Mirrored Lives 2

What kind of stories did your grandparents or parents tell you about their life during the war and its aftermath? Do you want to share your family stories? Would you be interested in learning what life was like for ordinary people on the other side of the Pacific? The first Mirrored Lives program was well-received by all participants. This inspired us to develop an online program so people throughout the Midwest could join in. The Midwest U.S.-Japan Council, Consulate-General of Japan in Chicago, Japanese American Service Committee and Japan America Society of Chicago have collaborated to provide this expanded opportunity for Japanese Americans and Japanese nationals to get to know each other better in an amicable environment. There will be brief presentations on Japanese civilian
experiences in the United States and Japan during and after the war. Then we will break up into small groups, each with a facilitator, for sharing each others’ family histories. Bonding over shared experiences will be one of our first steps toward creating a more collective community throughout the Midwest.

The large group presentation and small group discussions will be conducted in English. A bilingual individual will be in each small group to provide translation assistance as needed.

戦争中や戦後の生活について、ご祖父母やご両親からどのようなお話を聞いたことがありますか?ご家族のストーリーを共有してみたいと思ったことはありませんか?太平洋をはさんだ「反対側」の人々の当時の暮らしに、興味はありませんか?初回のMirrored Livesプログラムは、おかげさまで参加者の皆さまから大変ご好評をいただきました。その反響を受け、今回は中西部にお住まいの方々がオンラインで参加できる形で、プログラムを拡充
することとなりました。本プログラムは、在シカゴ日本国総領事館、米日カウンシル中西部支部、シカゴ定住者会(JASC)、シカゴ日米協会の協力により開催されます。日系アメリカ人と在米日本人が互いの歴史や想いを分かち合い、理解を深めるためのスペースをご提供します。当日は、戦中・戦後のアメリカおよび日本における一般市民の体験に関するプレゼンテーションの後、ファシリテーターとバイリンガル通訳がつく少人数のグループに分かれて、ご家族の体験などを自由に語り合っていただきます。

全体発表および小グループでのディスカッションは英語で行われますが、各小グループには、必要に応じて通訳サポートを行うバイリンガルの参加者が加わります。
