Reflection from Dana Baba (ELP ’19)

The following reflection is part of a year-long series by participants of the 2019 Emerging Leaders Program (ELP).

Dana Baba is an active duty Navy dentist serving as an essential worker in San Diego, CA. She contributes to the boot camp process of 16,500 USMC recruits per year by getting them operationally fit for duty. She had a transformative ELP experience where she engaged in productive discussions about Japanese American identity and the diversity within the Japanese American community, and notes that this is especially important to her because of her Japanese and Mexican heritage. She is engaged in a task force on social justice for Black communities with other ELP alumni and U40 members and is an active voice in USJC’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
