On Friday, January 12, USJC President & CEO Suzanne Basalla and USJC Board Co-Chair Susan Morita (Arnold & Porter) had the honor of meeting with former Foreign Minister Mr. NAKASONE Hirofumi (President of the Japan-US Parliamentary Friendship League and Member of the House of Councillors). The leaders exchanged views on mutual support and friendship in times of disaster, the importance of the Alliance in addressing the challenging geopolitical and economic security environment, and the role of people to people connections, especially related to the Japanese Americans, young people and those outside the capitals.
Suzanne and Susan thanked the Government of Japan and the Japan U.S. Parliamentary Association for its support of the people of Maui following the 2023 wildfires and welcomed the opportunity to continue the spirit of the TOMODACHI Initiative in Maui recovery.
