2004 Japanese American Leadership Delegation

Overview

The fourth Japanese American Leadership Delegation traveled to Japan on March 26th –April 4th, 2004.  The delegation visited Kyoto and Tokyo.  Highlights of the trip included participation in a ceremony and symposium commemorating the 150th anniversary of Japan-U.S. relations in Yokohama, as well as meetings with high-level Japanese leaders including government officials, parliamentarians and business executives.

The 2004 delegates represented eight cities from throughout the United States including Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, DC.  The delegation represented diverse professions including finance, government, higher education, law, non-profit administration, social services and utilities.

Symposium

The 2004 symposium, “Asian American Diversity: Building Coalitions” was sponsored by the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership and the Japanese American National Museum and coordinated by Dr. Yasuko Takezawa of Kyoto University and Irene Hirano Inouye. It featured Margaret Cummisky, Carole Hayashino, Ron Mamiya, David Mineta and Curtiss Takada Rooks as panelists.
